Join us to explore objects from The Ration Shed Museum Archives.Stories to be told and amazing objects to be revealed!
Our Many Objects showcases a remarkable collection of items donated by the Cherbourg community to the Ration Shed Museum, spanning from 2004 to the present. Many of these items are on display for the first time, offering a unique glimpse into Cherbourg's rich cultural heritage and history.
The collection highlights the evolution of daily life and the resilience of the community beyond the era of the Barambah Settlement.
The exhibition includes a diverse range of objects, from factory-made items produced overseas, to unique works crafted by talented local artists. Each object carries a personal story, reflecting activities as intimate as brushing hair or drinking coffee, as well as practical uses like building houses or supporting WWI servicemen abroad.
Stone tools, once commonplace, up to 10,000 years ago, are now cherished artifacts, valued for their craftsmanship and cultural significance. Other objects in the collection were created for commemorative purposes, celebrating, and honouring the town's residents and school groups with pride.
Our Many Objects serves as a legacy to the Cherbourg community, preserving the stories that have found their way to the Ration Shed Museum as a home and keeping place.
