The walk from Woodford to Cherbourg is a commemoration of the forced removal practice where Aboriginal (Men, Women & Children) were removed to Barambah (now known as Cherbourg), and remained for generations to come.
This event is organised by Yalari Ltd and occurs every two years. This year on 19th October, a group of young people, with the assistance of staff from Yalari and members of the Armed Forces of Australia, began their trek and arrived at Cherbourg on 23rd October to celebrate that long and arduous journey that our Elders endured. All of the walkers [upon arrival] were greeted by community residents and treated to afternoon refreshments at the Ration Shed Museum.
Great work Yalari and congratulations and well done to all the wonderful exhausted walkers.
