Our much loved and respected Wakka Wakka Elder, Ration Shed Museum committee member and friend (Tiny) Beryl Gambrill passed away after a long illness on the 12th of August. We will all miss her dearly. She was a remarkable woman – very humble and committed to her community.
We pay tribute her courage and her determination never to be a victim or an invalid even when she was in great pain. Beryl the Bunya Warrior – standing up to those that wanted to cut our Bunya trees down. Her passion for Education and encouraging our children to engage with the opportunities that are offered to them.
Freely and passionately sharing her knowledge and her history with us at the Ration Shed Museum. At any given moment Beryl would willingly give up her time to welcome visitors to Country or come to the endless meetings we have. She loved the Ration Shed Museum and shared her stories with young and old and her Strong Women’s Shadow box is a great tribute to her ancestors and family. Rest in peace our dearest friend.
Aunty Beryl’s funeral is on Monday the 20th August at the Anglican Church in Cherbourg. After the Committal Service at the cemetery – the Wake will be held at the Ration Shed Museum in The Boys Dormitory.
