On Thursday the 15th of August 85 primary school students from Talara College jumped off a bus and visited the Ration Shed for 2.5 hours. Clutched in their hands was the recently developed Educational Work booklets that relate to Cherbourg’s history. These booklets have been developed by the Ration Shed Museum, Sally Lawrence and Cindy Bin Tahal, Deputy principal of Talara Primary College.
A series of Educational work booklets has been developed for primary and high school students with links to the school curriculum. These work booklets have been carefully planned to accommodate hands on learning at the Ration Shed Museum. Before the students arrived they were given some pre visit material which entailed watching two DVD’s and a worksheet activity. These booklets will be launched in October and available to purchase from our website shop.
The feedback we had from Elders and students on the days was so encouraging. At every moment the students appeared totally engaged and the Elders were able to contribute and answer any questions the students had. We are hoping these booklets will encourage more schools to visit us and engage with our history
