The Cherbourg community came out on mass to celebrate NAIDOC at the Ration Shed Museum. Visitors from Brisbane, Maleny, Harvey Bay and the South Burnett joined in the celebrations. There were speeches by the Mayor Ken Bone, Sandra Morgan, Ada Simpson and Katina Leedie. We were entertained by traditional dancers and the toe tapping Muddy Flats band.
Many community organisations joined forces with us to make this day special – there were delicious stews cooked in camp ovens, rope climbing, face painting, youth activities, film screenings and various exhibitions.
Jennifer Hart was the overall winner of the art competition and there were many highly commended artists who won prizes that the local businesses had contributed
The Ration Shed would like to acknowledge the following funders who made this day possible.
- The Aboriginal Community Interest Consultative Committee (ACICC)
- The Australian Government Indigenous Co-ordination Centre (ICC).
- The Department of Communities
- The local businesses that donated prizes – Budburra Books, Struddies, The Murgon Post Office, The Australian Hotel, The Newsagent, Betta Electrical, Mitre 10 and the Royal Hotel
